The Snoop Dogg vampire movie - awful?

Jamie Foxx stars as Dave Franco and Jamie Foxx is the star of "Day Shift", a new movie about vampire hunting. The movie follows the story of a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.

The premise sounds exciting, but can J.J. Perry deliver on it?

Jamie Foxx shoots at an old lady who turns up to be a vamp in the opening scene of Day Shift. This leads to a hilarious fight between the two of them. I feel like the movie really has fun with this kind of rag-doll physics in its action scenes, making those sequences pop in a way that a lot of the Netflix action movies (or action blockbusters these days) don't. It's hard not to think of the old adage about how "action speaks louder than words" when watching a scene like this, and while there is certainly some truth to that, I think part of the reason "Day Shift" is so effective is because it knows how to use both action and dialogue to further the plot and character development. Jamie Foxx's role as the vampire is finally defeated and he engages in a humorous exchange with his partner about how "he thought she was going to transform into a bat" or something. It is moments like these that elevate "Day Shift," over other movies of the same genre.

Day Shift is a movie so bad that it's funny. It's obvious what they were trying but it was so disappointing. It's a poor production with mediocre acting and a stilted dialogue. The plot is also void of any real substance. However, it was still enjoyable. Perhaps it's because of my love for vampire movies or because I enjoy bad movies. Day Shift was enjoyable. It's not a great flick, but it's fun. And really, that's all I ask from a movie like this.

Day Shift was an interesting movie. One side is that there is lots of action and some fun characters (the brother and Seth), (link) and on the other, the villain was terrible and there were many mediocre people. It seemed like there were some scenes missing that had been cut. Bud's neighbor acts like they are close friends even though she was only given 3 minutes of screen-time prior to the final scene. That helps the good characters shine even further. Overall, the movie is enjoyable, but it could have been even better.

Snoop Dogg was almost forgotten about. He's fantastic in Day Shift. The whole movie is worth it because of him. His character is funny, and he can deliver some amazing lines. But more than that, he's just so natural in the role. He is a natural actor.
